Liam MacDonald is joining our clinic for his practicum from September 2025 to May 2026, and we’re thrilled to welcome him to the team. Currently completing his Master of Social Work (MSW) at the University of Waterloo, Liam brings not only academic excellence but also real-world experience as a Registered Social Worker (RSW).

Outside of work, Liam finds balance in nature and movement. Whether he’s hiking a trail or playing sports, he brings the same energy and mindfulness to his personal life that he offers in his clinical work.
Fee Information:
Liam offers therapy at a reduced clinical intern rate of $80 per session, with sliding scale options available as low as $35, depending on financial and personal circumstances. Clinical services provided by RSWs are not subject to tax.
Receipts include the license number of Liam’s clinical supervisor, Bruno Jung-Millen, MSW, RSW (OCSWSSW 837354), allowing clients to claim fees through insurance.
Professional Experience:
Liam MacDonald brings a rich background in clinical social work, shaped by diverse roles supporting individuals through grief, life transitions, and mental health challenges.
Currently, Liam serves as the Bereavement Services Coordinator at Hospice Care Ottawa, where he provides direct therapeutic support to individuals, families, and caregivers coping with loss and anticipatory grief. In this role, he facilitates caregiver support groups, conducts clinical intakes and assessments, and develops personalized care plans to guide clients through their healing journey. He also oversees a team of over 20 grief and bereavement volunteers, ensuring compassionate and consistent care across three hospice locations.
Previously, Liam worked as a Relief Counsellor at Vista Centre Brain Injury Services, where he led support groups focused on anger management and life adjustment for individuals living with acquired brain injuries. His work included case management, referrals to community resources, and one-on-one emotional support, helping clients navigate complex psychosocial challenges.
During his Bachelor of Social Work practicum at Rebound Total Health Therapy Services, Liam coordinated client care, facilitated referrals, and contributed to mental health education through writing and resource development. His clinical placements and professional roles have equipped him with a strong foundation in trauma-informed care, grief counselling, and community-based mental health support.

Liam offers individual therapy for adults, with a focus on supporting clients through emotionally complex and transitional periods in life. Liam’s clinical work is informed by a range of evidence-based modalities. His areas of clinical focus include:
- Grief, Loss, and Bereavement: Supporting clients as they navigate the emotional landscape following the death of a loved one, including anticipatory grief and complicated grief. Liam helps individuals process their experiences, find meaning, and move forward at their own pace.
- Caregiver Stress and Burnout: Providing therapeutic support to those caring for family members with chronic or terminal illnesses. Liam helps caregivers manage emotional exhaustion, guilt, and identity shifts, while building coping strategies and self-compassion.
- Men’s Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing: Creating a safe and non-judgmental space for men to explore emotional challenges, identity, and mental health concerns. Liam works to dismantle stigma and support men in developing emotional literacy and healthy coping mechanisms.
- Life Transitions: Assisting clients through major life changes such as career shifts, academic transitions, relationship changes, and personal growth journeys. Therapy focuses on navigating uncertainty, building confidence, and clarifying values.
- Interpersonal and Relationship Challenges: Helping clients understand and improve their relationships during times of stress, grief, or transition. Liam supports clients in exploring attachment patterns, communication styles, and emotional needs within relational contexts.
- Adjustment to Illness or Injury: Drawing from his experience in brain injury services, Liam supports individuals adjusting to new realities following illness or injury, helping them process loss, redefine identity, and build adaptive strategies.
Education & Training:
Liam holds a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from Carleton University, where he developed a strong foundation in client-centered care, structural social work, and ethical practice. He is currently completing his Master of Social Work (MSW) at the University of Waterloo, with a clinical focus on evidence-based therapeutic interventions and mental health support.
Prior to his university studies, Liam earned a Diploma in Social Service Work from St. Lawrence College in Cornwall, Ontario. This early training laid the groundwork for his commitment to community-based care and trauma-informed practice.
Liam is also dedicated to ongoing professional development. He continues to expand his clinical toolkit through advanced training in:

Clinical supervision involves regular case consultations, reflective practice, and ongoing skill development. It allows Liam to deepen his clinical insight, receive feedback, and refine his therapeutic approach in a structured and supportive environment.
