What is the Gottman Method?

The Gottman Method is a research-based approach to couples therapy developed by Drs. John and Julie Schwartz Gottman. It focuses on strengthening relationships through understanding and improving communication patterns, managing conflict, and enhancing emotional connection. Key concepts include identifying and addressing negative communication patterns, creating detailed "love maps" of each other's worlds, and fostering mutual respect and appreciation. By applying these principles, the Gottman Method aims to help couples build a more resilient and fulfilling relationship.

What is Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy?

Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) or Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a therapeutic approach designed to help couples strengthen their emotional bond and resolve conflicts. Developed by Dr. Sue Johnson, EFT focuses on identifying and changing negative interaction patterns that undermine emotional connection. The therapy helps partners express their emotions and needs more openly, fostering deeper understanding and empathy. By addressing underlying emotional issues and improving attachment security, EFT aims to create a more secure and fulfilling relationship.
