Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Program

The Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) program offers eligible First Nations and Inuit clients comprehensive coverage for mental health counseling and psychotherapy. At Intersections Therapy Collective, we are proud to participate in this program, providing access to our approved NIHB providers who are specifically trained in anti-colonial, justice-oriented, and structurally focused psychotherapy. Our therapists deliver culturally sensitive care that respects Indigenous values and traditions, ensuring that mental health support is provided without financial barriers.

Our clinic facilitates a seamless process for clients by directly billing the NIHB program, eliminating the need for clients to handle any administrative tasks or financial transactions. To begin therapy, eligible clients must receive ‘prior approval’ through the NIHB program, which our administrator handles for all clients. This process requires submitting their status card number and personal information as indicated on the card issued by Indigenous Services Canada (ISC). This ensures that clients receive the necessary authorization before their first session, allowing them to focus on their mental health and well-being without worrying about out-of-pocket expenses or paperwork.

By integrating anti-colonial and justice-oriented practices into our therapeutic services, we are committed to providing equitable and respectful mental health care that aligns with the unique needs and experiences of Indigenous clients. Our goal is to support clients in their healing journey while honoring their cultural identity and removing financial barriers to accessing essential mental health services.

Our clinic also collaborates with the Cree Board of Health and Social Services of James Bay (CBHSSJB), the Nunatsiavut Government, the Government of the Northwest Territories, and other nation or band councils to ensure that the approval process, administered separately from Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) at the federal government, is smooth and efficient for clients needing psychotherapy.

From Chaos to Clarity: ADHD-Focused Group Psychotherapy

From Chaos to Clarity is a structured ADHD-focused psychotherapy group designed to help adults develop practical skills, strengthen emotional resilience, and navigate life with greater confidence. Using a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) treatment protocol, this group provides evidence-based strategies to improve focus, organization, emotional regulation, and impulse control. We also take a neurodivergent-affirming approach, recognizing that ADHD is not a disorder to be “fixed” but a different way of thinking and experiencing the world. Our goal is to help you work with your brain, not against it, by fostering self-compassion, identifying strengths, and building systems that support your needs.

Each session focuses on key areas where ADHD can create challenges, such as time management, procrastination, emotional regulation, and relationships. Through structured exercises, discussions, and peer support, participants will learn how to shift unhelpful thought patterns, develop sustainable coping strategies, and improve daily functioning. CBT-based techniques will help reframe self-criticism, increase motivation, and create routines that work for ADHD brains. Whether you struggle with feeling overwhelmed, impulsivity, or difficulty following through on tasks, this group provides actionable tools to help you move forward.

This is a supportive, judgment-free space where you can connect with others who truly understand the ADHD experience. Whether you have a formal diagnosis or are exploring ADHD as part of your journey, this group will provide you with practical skills, emotional support, and a renewed sense of self-acceptance. Together, we’ll turn chaos into clarity.

ACT with Intention: Students' Guide to Love, Boundaries, and Balance

ACT with Intention is an 8-week therapy program tailored for female university and college students who want to navigate the challenges of romantic relationships, set healthy boundaries, and cope with the stress of academic and personal life. Balancing relationships, coursework, and the demands of emerging adulthood can feel overwhelming, especially when navigating the complexities of love and connection.

Using the evidence-based Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) approach, this group provides a supportive space to explore your values, develop mindfulness skills, and build tools to create fulfilling relationships and manage stress effectively. Through guided exercises, interactive discussions, and practical strategies, participants will learn to: (1) understand and accept difficult emotions without getting stuck in unhelpful patterns; (2) set and maintain boundaries that align with their personal values; (3) navigate relational stress, conflict, and communication challenges; and (4) build resilience to manage academic pressures and life transitions.

Whether you’re navigating your first serious relationship, dealing with breakups, or seeking more balance between your love life and academic goals, this group offers practical support and a community of peers who understand.

Express Yourself: Gender Affirming Group Therapy

This group therapy program targets children and youth who are questioning their gender identity and seeking a safe space to express their developing identities through a combination of psycho-education, group counselling, drag performance, and arts. It also cultivates alternative ways to challenge psychosocial and systemic factors that oppress the participants’ authentic sense of self. The program is designed for children aged 10 and older, considering their cognitive capacity for engagement and consent, and for teenagers up to 18, with exceptions made as needed.
